How to Properly Take Care of the Battery In Your Motorcycle

Posted by Will Garrity on 30th Nov 2018

Your battery is arguably the most important piece of your motorcycle.

Even though motorcycle batteries come in all shapes, sizes, and charge levels, there is one thing that they all have in common: they will fail at some point in their lives. Fortunately, your care and effort will go a long way into limiting the failure of your battery, thereby extending its life and saving you money!

Battery Maintenance and Charging

Motorcycles are a blast to ride but are pretty damn terrible at charging their batteries due to lack of sufficient power. If you own a motorcycle, you should own a battery maintenance device and/or battery charger. When you are not actively riding your motorcycle the best practice is to have its battery on a “trickle charge” tender to keep it at full battery capacity. This is more important than ever with the advent of greater electronic additions and advancements on new motorcycles.

While we offer several options on our site for battery chargers we have our favorites listed here to make it simple. https://www.billetproofdesign.com/antigravity-bat...

3 Easy Steps To Preventing A Dead Battery

  1. Always have your motorcycle on a maintenance charger or battery tender when it is sitting for any duration of time.
  2. Make sure a new battery is charged to 100% before installing it and riding the bike.
  3. Always be conscious of how old your battery is and make sure the terminals are always in working order.

Lithium-Ion Motorcycle Batteries - Lightweight Performance Upgrade

If you are one of those riders who wants to reduce the weight of your motorcycle there is no simpler, cost-effective mod than replacing your heavy Lead Acid Battery with a lightweight Lithium-Ion replacement. While every application is a little different you can expect to shed from 3-6 lbs. on the average motorcycle. Typically you would need to spend well over a grand to get the same results from other mods. We carry a full line of Lithium Ion batteries from Antigravity Batteries and Shorai.

In the video below, our resident Lithium-Ion Motorcycle Battery expert, Dan, guides you through the steps you need to take to effectively purchase a lithium-ion battery.
